Recently, we had the privilege of installing freestanding guardrails at the New Haven Job Corps Center in New Haven, Connecticut. The project was carried out by Warner Specialty Products, a trusted local distributor.

Freestanding Guardrails for Collective Protection

The installation of freestanding guardrails at the New Haven Job Corps Center was crucial to creating a safe environment for both students and staff. These fall protection systems were installed not only to protect the center’s employees but also to ensure the safety of contractors performing maintenance throughout the building’s lifespan.

Freestanding Guardrail Installation Process

Warner Specialty Products managed the entire process—from the initial needs assessment to the final guardrail installation. For this project, the VSS Compact system was selected. This modular freestanding guardrail system is designed to provide maximum safety while being easy to install. Its base counterweight consists of two 50 lb pieces, complying with manual handling standards. Additionally, only one tool is required to complete the entire installation.

The project was divided into nine distinct sections of freestanding guardrails, distributed across four independent lifting zones. This allowed for efficient site management and a faster, safer installation. The materials were professionally packaged and labeled by the manufacturer and shipped directly from the head office in Brossard, QC.

Technical Details of the Freestanding Guardrail Installation

A total of 170 linear feet of freestanding guardrails were installed. The VSS Compact guardrails are made from anodized aluminum tubing—a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly durable material. They also use recycled rubber counterweights that are both sturdy and eco-friendly, offering optimal safety while minimizing environmental impact. The connector clamps are hot-dip galvanized and electroplated to ensure long-lasting durability and a clean, professional appearance.
