Recently, we had the privilege of installing roof guardrails at the New Haven Job Corps Center in New Haven, Connecticut. This centre plays a vital role in the vocational training of young people, and ensuring their safety is a top priority. The installation was carried out by Warner Specialty Products, a trusted local distributor.

Collective Safety with Roof Guardrail

The installation of roof guardrails at this Connecticut educational centre was crucial to ensuring a safe environment for anybody visiting the roof. These fall protection systems were installed not only to protect the centre’s employees but also to ensure the safety of contractors who will be performing maintenance operations throughout the building’s life.

Roof Guardrail Installation Process

Warner Specialty Products handled the entire process, from the initial needs assessment to the final roof guardrail installation. For this project, the VSS Compact system was chosen. This modular roof guardrail system is designed to provide maximum safety while being easy to install. The two-piece counterweight, both weighing at 50 lb, is easy to install and requires only one tool for the whole installation.

The installation was divided into nine distinct sections of roof guardrails, spread across four independent lifting zones, allowing for efficient site management and a faster, safer installation. The material was professionally packaged, labelled and shipped from the manufacturer’s factory.

Technical Details of the Roof Guardrail Install

A total of 170 linear feet of roof guardrails were installed. The VSS Compact guardrails are made from anodized aluminum pipes, a lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and highly durable material. Additionally, they use recycled rubber counterweights that are both durable and robust, offering optimal safety while being environmentally responsible. This material choice not only ensures the longevity of the installation but also minimizes environmental impact. Connector clamps are hot-dipped galvanized and electroplated ensuring a permanent installation that will maintain its neat appearance for years to come.
